Born out of the 2020 pandemic, MI SU Street Food is a food truck with a cult following in Pensacola, Florida. Owners Alden and Hylene Garcia had worked in the service industry through the years as front-of-the-house employees. It was Alden’s desire to open a food truck or restaurant of his own that fueled the idea from the beginning, but the husband and wife duo quickly established themselves as business owners who went from the new kids on the block to a local favorite.
MI SU or “mine and yours” in Spanish started their culinary debut with a menu full of Mexican-American snacks and fresh-made tacos that rotated often. After many late nights and teetering on the brink of burnout, the MI SU owners found a menu of staples in smash burgers and fried chicken, both fan favorites and easier to execute on a nightly basis. Their commitment to quality food and ensuring everyone has a consistently excellent experience every visit permeates every aspect of their business from their menu to their social media presence.
Alden and Hylene joined the Practical Rebels podcast to discuss the challenges of owning a business, maintaining a work-life balance as a married couple, and lessons learned along the way. They even gave us an exclusive preview into their new soft serve ice cream concept called “Nolita’s.” The MI SU truck will be moving to a permanent location to support the grab-and-go soft serve oasis that will complement their beloved menu with something sweet.
