Building a Brand as Bold as Baldwin County’s Future

Rebranding The Baldwin County’s economic development organization

The Challenge

Baldwin County’s economic development organization needed a name and identity that people could rally around. “Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance” was long, inconsistent in use, and lacked the clarity and confidence required for a region growing at this pace.

The Approach

We introduced Baldwin Alliance as a clear, ownable name and built a modern brand and website around it. Every element was designed to position the organization as the central hub for Baldwin County’s growth while reflecting the balance between coast, community, and commerce.

A New Identity for a County on the Rise

Baldwin County’s economic development organization was already doing impactful, far-reaching work across the region. What it lacked was a name, brand, and digital presence that reflected the scale of that work or the momentum of the county it served. The identity in place had become long, technical, and inconsistent in use, making it difficult for the organization to show up as a clear, unified leader.

This project was also a continuation of an existing relationship. We had previously partnered with the team to build Belong in Baldwin, the county’s talent attraction and retention initiative. That work gave us deep context around their mission, audiences, and long-term goals, along with an established trust that allowed us to approach this next phase strategically.

The task was not to invent something new, but to elevate what already existed. The goal was to modernize the organization’s name, identity, and website in a way that brought clarity, cohesion, and confidence to the role it was already playing in Baldwin County’s future.

Discovery

We had worked with this team before on Belong in Baldwin, the talent attraction and retention initiative housed within the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance. That prior partnership gave us archival knowledge, historical insight, and an understanding of how economic development already showed up in the region.

This phase focused on listening closely to how the organization had evolved and where it needed to go next. While the mission had expanded, the existing name and brand structure no longer reflected the full scope of work, audiences served, or long-term vision. The organization was operating with more complexity and influence than its brand suggested.

Through collaborative workshops, we examined audience needs, regional perception, and internal priorities. We assessed how workforce development, business recruitment, community partnerships, and economic storytelling intersected, and where clarity was being lost along the way.

One insight became clear early on. This was about revealing a more unified, confident expression of an organization that already played a central role in Baldwin County’s growth.

Naming

With clarity established during discovery, the next step was defining a name that could accurately represent the organization’s role, reach, and future. The existing structure had grown beyond a single initiative or program. What was needed now was a unifying identity that could sit at the center of economic development, workforce strategy, and long-term regional growth.

The naming process focused on alignment and longevity. We explored how the organization showed up across audiences, including businesses, talent, partners, and community leaders, and how a name could bring those efforts together under one clear banner. It needed to feel credible, confident, and adaptable, without sounding corporate or disconnected from place.

Geography mattered. Baldwin County itself is the common thread connecting every initiative, partnership, and investment. At the same time, the name needed to signal collaboration, momentum, and shared purpose rather than a single function or department.

Through iterative exploration and stakeholder input, the name Baldwin Alliance emerged as the strongest expression of that balance. It speaks to unity, partnership, and collective progress, while remaining flexible enough to support evolving priorities over time.

The name became the strategic anchor for the brand. It created clarity internally, strengthened recognition externally, and laid the groundwork for a visual and verbal identity built to support Baldwin County’s continued growth.

    Color Palette & Typography

    The Baldwin Alliance color palette draws directly from the region’s natural landscape, grounding the brand in place while supporting clarity and versatility across applications. Each color was selected for both symbolic meaning and functional performance.

    • Golden Sun and Tangerine bring warmth and optimism into the system, evoking sunshine, energy, and opportunity. These hues add vibrancy and are used intentionally for emphasis, connection points, and moments of momentum. 
    • Ocean Blue and Deep Navy reflect the layers of water that define the region. Calm yet powerful, they communicate trust, depth, and forward movement, anchoring the brand in credibility. 
    • Forest Green represents land and growth, reinforcing stability, balance, and long-term sustainability. 
    • Sand provides contrast and breathing room. Soft and expansive, it creates space for the other colors to shine while keeping the system approachable and grounded.

    Beyond symbolism, the palette was engineered for accessibility and consistency. The balance of warm and cool tones allows the brand to flex across audiences, while strong contrast ensures readability across digital and print environments.

    Typography further reinforces this balance. Nexa was selected as the primary typeface for its geometric structure and subtle warmth. Clean, precise forms deliver clarity and professionalism, while rounded details add approachability and energy. With multiple weights and strong legibility, Nexa performs seamlessly across headlines, body copy, and interfaces. When Nexa is unavailable, Proxima Nova serves as a reliable fallback, maintaining consistency across platforms and teams.

    Design Elements

    The Baldwin Alliance design elements were created to add energy, flexibility, and personality to the brand while reinforcing its core themes of connection, momentum, and collaboration. Each asset serves a functional role within the system and works together as a cohesive visual language.

    Directional assets introduce a sense of movement and progress, guiding the viewer through layouts and reinforcing Baldwin Alliance’s forward momentum. Curved assets are pulled from the larger pattern and used as subtle connection points, visually linking content and creating a sense of flow across pages and materials.

    Rounded container shapes bring structure with softness. They help organize photography, data, and copy while maintaining an approachable, modern feel. Puzzle piece and stamp elements reference postcards and individual contributions coming together, serving as a visual metaphor for Baldwin County’s interconnected communities, industries, and initiatives.

    The equal sign and conversation bubble shapes, drawn from the negative space of the logo, act as a recurring symbol of balance and dialogue. These elements express shared ideas, partnership, and collaboration, reinforcing the Alliance’s role as a connector.

    Supporting stickers add visual rhythm and emphasis when used intentionally. Designed to punctuate layouts rather than overwhelm them, they bring personality while maintaining professionalism. White space plays a critical role throughout the system, providing balance and clarity so bold elements remain purposeful.

    A monoline icon set extends the system into functional use, offering clear, scalable symbols that complement content without competing for attention.

    Website

    The Baldwin Alliance website served as both the primary digital presence and the public debut of the new brand. As a central component of the rollout, it was the first place where all brand elements came together in one cohesive experience.

    From the outset, the site was designed to reflect Baldwin County’s growth and economic momentum. Clean layouts, strong photography, and clear messaging immediately ground visitors in a story centered on opportunity and forward progress. Every section is organized with clarity, using a structured grid system and generous white space to keep the experience polished and easy to navigate.

    The website balances people-focused storytelling with data and industry insights, ensuring complex economic development information remains accessible. Leadership profiles, workforce imagery, and community-driven visuals reinforce a simple truth. Baldwin’s progress is powered by its people.

    As the public-facing launch of the brand, the site established tone, credibility, and consistency across all future communications. It now functions as a strategic hub for business recruitment, workforce development, and partnership building. By humanizing economic development and clearly articulating vision and value, the Baldwin Alliance website anchors the brand and sets the standard for how it shows up across channels moving forward.

    Collateral

    To ensure the Baldwin Alliance brand launched with confidence and flexibility, we developed a broad suite of collateral designed to inspire activation from day one. The goal was not just consistency, but possibility. We wanted the team to immediately see how the brand could live, move, and scale across real-world applications.

    This included a full set of social media skins and templates that allowed the team to roll out the new identity quickly across digital channels. These templates provided structure while remaining flexible enough to support storytelling, data highlights, and community-driven content.

    Beyond digital, we created a wide range of mockups to demonstrate the brand’s impact in physical spaces. Billboard and trade show signage showed how the identity could command attention at scale, while business cards and stationery reinforced professionalism in everyday interactions. Branded apparel, including t-shirts, along with stickers, tote bags, and coffee mugs, highlighted the brand’s potential as a unifying symbol for team members, partners, and the broader community.

    Together, these touchpoints helped the Baldwin Alliance team fully visualize the strength and adaptability of the new brand. By providing tangible examples across formats, the collateral empowered the organization to activate the identity immediately and consistently, ensuring the brand felt established, visible, and ready to support growth from the moment it launched.
